Bandy Canyon Ranch

Nice cabin like bunglaows, good pool, rustic envionment. The staff is very nice, however they are not available after 10 PM and are dificult to contact in the evening. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The ranch boasts a picturesque setting and is ideally located for exploring the San Diego Safari Park (just a short ten-minute drive away). Unfortunately, our stay in the Canary Cottage was marred by several disappointing issues that detracted from the property's rustic charm. Upon arrival, we encountered immediate challenges, including a less-than-helpful check-in process and subpar room conditions. Hair on the beds, band-aids on the floor, and a slow-draining bathroom sink were unexpected discoveries. The bathroom amenities lacked basic hygiene standards (were not in tamper-proof dispensers), and the water quality was questionable. To add to our discomfort, the cottage was notably dusty and filled with cobwebs. The provided breakfast proved insufficient for two nights, and the advertised Pelican amenity was unavailable. The mini-fridge leaked water overnight, causing inconvenience. Additionally, the kitchen was poorly maintained with a dirty water kettle and sponge that emitted a mildewy odor. Moreover, the unpaved exit road with potholes presented an additional inconvenience. While the staff did eventually address some of our concerns, the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the property fell short of expectations. The discovery of a dirty towel among the fresh linens was particularly unsettling. Given the proximity to the Safari Park, we believe this ranch has the potential to be an exceptional getaway. However, significant improvements in housekeeping and guest services are necessary to meet guest standards.

Beautiful nature, and scenery, warm-helpful staff, a historic feeling, and quaint-rustic rooms will keep me coming back. I was in need of a sanity break and this place provided the low-key charm and lush natural surroundings that I needed. *Sami at the front desk reception was wonderful. The other staff we encountered at the animal sanctuary and around the grounds were friendly---the place feels familial.

Absolutely stunning setting and a true hidden San Diego gem! A nice balance between boutique hotel and glamping. A great place to relax and hide out for a few days – good for couples or groups. In spite of a few drawbacks we will definitely be back! Pros: The ranch landscape and setting is spectacular, lovely pool (hope the bar is open soon), ample BBQs and picnic tables and fabulous morning breakfast basket. We loved that there was no background music at the pool and we could listen to the birds and nature. Historic Lodge is beautiful and hope restaurant coming soon? Front desk staff young, helpful and nice. Cons: Our one long day by the pool was wonderful other than gardeners who used continuous mowers and blowers for over 5 hours but all stopped at 4pm. The property has a lot of landscape to manage but maybe a larger team is needed or break up days to minimize noise. As there is no restaurant, we planned to cook in each night and called ahead regarding provisions. Sadly, there were a only a few paper plates and disposable utensils. It would be an easy fix to invest in 4 cheap Target dinner and salad plates, a few serving bowls, cutlery, coffee cups, 4 wine glasses (same for every unit) so we could enjoy the lovely dinner we brought. Housekeeping staff pleasant but never replenished coffee pods, sugar, creamer etc. A golf cart to help older/disabled guests and supplies to the cottages and around the property would be wonderful. Canary Cottage: right off parking lot but still quiet. We picked this room based on online photos that show a sofa and full kitchen which was inaccurate. The sofa is replaced with a queen bed and there is only a galley kitchen (adequate). However, this unit lacks 2 chairs suitable for relaxing either indoors or on the small patio. Bathroom small but adequate and would benefit from a few towel hooks. Great AC and the TV worked. Wish the bedroom had screens so we could enjoy night air without bugs. The rustic church pew on porch is picturesque but cannot sit for long and enjoy the view. It would be cute out on the lawn and replaced with 2 comfortable chairs and small table on porch. Blackout curtains great but do not need floor length drapes falling into the kitchen sink. The shared patio is private and beautiful and we enjoyed dinner outside – best if you also rent the adjoining unit. A few easy patio chairs in corner would be appreciated.

Came here with my 1yr old about 6 yrs ago, and finally returned, stayed one night in March 2022 with 3 kids this time (in Peacock). It was very quiet the night we stayed there, so it was an absolutely perfect setting. Loved exploring the grounds, especially the old main building, the large open spaces to play, and visiting the horses/animals. (Nice helpful additions for kids since last visit, like the giant Connect 4 on the lawn, and the common area building with crafts/games to bring out to the covered porch.) Was a bit too chilly to jump in the pool but plan to do so in a future visit, as it's also a neat place to spend some time. Everything here just feels like such a slice of history. It's not your fancy resort of steel/glass/Starbucks, but they do an excellent job of maintaining the buildings and spending a LOT of time on the upkeep of the stunning grounds. The shower area was nicely updated, which was a nice surprise since the last visit. Looked like they were setting up for a wedding when we left, so someone looking for a quiet night might be left wanting, in the event of... an event. Anahi at the front desk was about as nice and helpful a person as you'll ever meet.

I took my friend there for her Birthday. I has a lot of questions before our visit because I have trouble walking. Kate, the office manager, couldn't have been more helpful & accommodating when I called. She placed us in a user friendly room. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The manicured grounds are exquisite & inviting. There is even a stream that runs through it where you can see an occasional koi fish. All of the cabins are different & named after birds, some of which you can find flying around the property. I was struck as to how quiet it was all night long. It made for a great night's sleep. We didn't use the pool or jacuzzi but it looked wonderful. They have horses & a petting zoo. Check on the times for that. I can't wait to return.

Stunning BUT... Would not stay here again. Sadly to say beyond the stunning background, the immaculate grounds, the cute cabins - You can not get away from all of the screaming kids that are running the grounds, playing in the pool until all hours of the night, music from the pool area until 10pm etc. i would LOVE to stay here when it is quiet so it would be a peaceful getaway. However this is a stunning setting for parents to live in while their kiddos run everywhere. I can not imagine if someone had a wedding here in their beautiful wedding area, and the pool is right behind that space. It would 100% ruin the day. This is a staycation place for families - Period!

We held a corporate retreat here the weekend of October 22-24. Diego and the entire staff were very helpful. The property was clean and they had everything setup for our group to enjoy themselves. We had all catering done through the Grand Restaurant Group, with Jory as our primary event planner. The food was incredible, and our primary catering person Leah was amazing. The property has a bit of a dude ranch feel in a very tranquil setting.
